Many thanks

seems have you used either of these sites? I only want recommendations from trusted members on sites they use. Buying precious metals is something I don't feel that comfortable buying online.0

Seems like you're advertising rather than recommending. ps im not buying my investments off ebay0

I've no experience with these but others seem to have found them reputable.

As far as silver bullion coins go - you don't seem to get a great price in the UK. The market is smaller (compared to, say, the US) and the coins are subject to VAT. That's why I went the ETF route for my silver. Although I did buy some American Silver Eagle coins recently on a trip to the US.0 -
What is your reasoning / motivation for buying, may help people better suggest the most useful route.Hope for the best.....Plan for the worst!

Is the order of this post screwed up for anyone else?
Anyway there's an advert in this week's IC for an ETF gold backed by physical allocation that you can inspect (for a fee). I'll post the details when I find out where someone's moved my IC to...Mmmm, credit crunch. Tasty.0 -

Note, I have no opinion on this product or company.Mmmm, credit crunch. Tasty.0 -
NO this thread is NOT for ETFs.
It is for buying physical gold & silver e.g. credit suisse gold bars.
I am most interested in buying silver but now put off that you have to pay VAT but not for buying gold? Why is this?0 -
Gold bullion is considered an investment instrument and was declared exempt of VAT in 2000.
As to why silver isn't given the same consideration I have no idea. Probably the same reason that chocolate cake doesn't incur VAT but chocolate biscuits do - HMRC is staffed by nutjobsMmmm, credit crunch. Tasty.0 -
