You can go too far.
You can - i've never had any anti virus software installed and only ever used zonealarm as my firewall - currently using the vista firewall as well. Aside from an quarterly online scan, i've never had any problems.
as some have said, education is the best tool you can use.0 -

Your using 2 firewalls?
How would your computer stop itself from being forced to load in a dodgy internet page that will bombard you with viruses? (Possible from THIS very site being hacked for example) Further to that, how would you KNOW its being bombarded with viruses?
I understand your point of view, but in this day and age, running a windows based system with no resident anti virus is.....well......NOT recommended.:idea:0 -
Basically, all you need to do is make sure you install any Windows Updates, a regulary updated virus scanner and some common sense.
You can go way overboard installing programs to lock down your computer but you're just slowing down your machine. Learning what is safe browsing is much, much more effective than throwing programs at it to deal with the aftermath.0 -

Exactly, do you fill your car boot with bricks to stop you speeding or do you change your driving style..0 -
Yes ..Using a router is an excellent way to protect your network.totalsolutions wrote: »All you need is a nat router and some common sense, thats all. Note: all routers are nat routers, the rest is overkill as your pc guy said.
However that is not going to stop viruses, spyware, ect on it`s own.
I would always use an antvirus ,spyware, and firewall program ,and would not recommend relying just on your router to protect yourself.Always follow the path of least resistance.0
