    PS We rarely go anywhere!

Am i reading that right, you pay your daughter ?
You're paid to look after your own grandchild ?
    Oh.
No i've read it again you mean your daughter is looking after her sister.
Still seems strange to pay her.

A lot of teenagers these days will charge their parents to look after their siblings – they know they can get paid to look after other peoples children and if the parents need to be out they would only end up paying for a sitter anyway.

p.s – not agreeing its right for them to charge their parents but I suppose it earns them pocket money!

I set the rate for payment, I believe that it helps develop the work ethic.
If any of my family do any work for me, I always insist on paying them a proper rate!

I babysat regularly for my parents but never asked for money, well i think i brought it up once and their response was they paid for my food/housing/cleaning etc so no chance in hell! Though they gave me a token payment of £10 once a year when they were away overnight for the work do.

My friend and I babysat (a good few years ago now mind you - at least 12!) and got £5 for the entire evening (6 hours) between us at aged 14.

When I was 15 I got £20 for a "day" which was usually about 4-6 hours and I was delighted with that and thought it was too much!

I used to get £5 an hour, I was qualified in childcare and play work and working towards higher qualifications in the same field, I had CRB, first aid, social services check and food hygiene.

I would collect from school, feed, entertain, bath and put to bed once a week. This was just for one child though and I'd get a lift home at the end of it.

Another family used to pay me £10 an hour but that was for three children and they'd often have friends over and it was only a once in a while thing.
