The question arose in another forum:
The quick answers were:
Caped_Avenger wrote:how does one get the Euro symbol without using Alt+0128? If it's possible at all, that is. I only ask because it annoys me, sitting there on my '4' key, and my stupid brain not knowing how to access it.
The quick answers were:
- press AltGr-4
- press Ctrl-Alt-4

However, the above shortcuts don't work on every PC.
The long answer can be found here:- An Introduction to the euro

Conclusion
it only works if:- you are using a font with euro support
- your OS supports it: Win 2000 onwards (95/98 with service packs)
- your codepage (charset) does: e.g. windows 1252 or ISO 8859-15

The even shorter answer is to
* hold down the Alt Gr key (just to right of the space bar)
* press the 4 key (just above e and r)
* release the Alt Gr key.
Pretty well every font you have available to you will include the € symbol, and XP has the required support in the operating system!

PS It was all so different during the heady days of 1998 and 1999!0
