Amazon cop-out !

The defect arose within 6 months and I informed them at the time.
Apart from which: Most retailers give a 12 month warranty on all goods. If Amazon are going to strictly adhere to the SoGA perhaps they had better put this fact on their website !0 -
Sad to see that Amazon have now become SoGA deniers along with Comet, Argos et al.
I wouldn't even bother trying to reason with them - just fire off a summons - https://www.moneyclaim.gov.uk0 -
I'm sure their denial of the SoGA comes from their insistence that they are a Luxembourg company and not a UK one, although i'm sure there is equivalent protection in EC law. In addition to that the fact they both trade here and also have a physical presence I would expect to be significant in binding them to our law.Bought, not Brought0

Progress !
"Dear Mr. ********
Thank you for contacting Amazon.co.uk.
Please accept our sincere apologies for any inconvenience caused.
I would be happy to create a replacement order for the defective item right away, to be dispatched to you as soon as possible at no additional charge.
However, in this case, you might no longer be interested in this option.
We would still be happy to arrange for a replacement to be sent to the same address. If this solution will not work for you, however, you can simply ask for a refund to be issued for the item, along with the associated delivery costs.
Please let us know whether you would prefer us to send a replacement, or issue a refund for the item by replying to this email and I will be happy to arrange this for you.
Regards

I guess you have to go to the top to get anything done.0

Well done on getting a result.
My other thought if it had not been resolved was that you could purchase an exact same printer from Amazon and return the old one as faulty (is that allowed)

You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time but you can never please all of the people all of the time0 -
I know it's easy to say now but I wouldn't choose amazon to buy a printer from anyway!! Maybe a dvd etc but nothing expensive!0

a. They were the cheapest.aharding85 wrote: »I know it's easy to say now but I wouldn't choose amazon to buy a printer from anyway!! Maybe a dvd etc but nothing expensive!
b. I bought a DVD recorder from them a few years back - it went duff, they replaced it immediately.
c. It wasn't expensive - not much more than a DVD !
d. I wouldn't buy a DVD from Amazon - plenty of cheaper sources

We bought a DVD recorder that was very tempromental, Amazon refunded, and we bought a DVD HDD, which we love.
I was considering buying one for my mum for christmas from amazon, as her recorder is quite old now, but this thread has really put me off.
I have always found Amazon really good with customer care and refunds etc, but if they are reducing their guarantees to 6 months I'll probably go elsewhere.
I have looked on their website and it doesnt clearly say they only give 6 months on electrical products, so either the OP was misinformed, or Amazon are not being clear about it for buyers.
When I buy anything like this, I would have thought the shop offers a 12 month guarantee, and as a bonus some manufacturers offer an additional 12 months, but 6 months?
Again it comes down to interpretation, and what a 'reasonable time' is....good grief at this rate they will be selling 'sold as seen, no refunds' next!0 -

The OP wasn't misinformed ! The OP said absolutely nothing about the guarantee period being reduced to 6 months - I just related the story.
Another poster said "I'm guessing the item is over 6 months old? If so, Amazon don't have to offer a replacement or repair unless you can prove the item was faulty at time of purchase."
Another said "I'm sure their denial of the SoGA .........." - none of my communications from Amazon reference a denial of the SoGA.
I did comment : "Most retailers give a 12 month warranty on all goods. If Amazon are going to strictly adhere to the SoGA perhaps they had better put this fact on their website !" merely as a response to the two quotes above.0
