Can i get my money back - PC world related

Hi all

I bought a graphics card from pc world on the 09/10/08 and it has started to give me trouble. After asking users on an IT forum I use, it seems the card is on its way out. Ive also been advised to get a refund as the card was overpriced in the 1st place, should have asked the experts 1st I suppose :)

Im planning on taking the card back tomorrow but just wanted to know if getting a refund rather than a exchange/credit note is possible?

Thanks in advance.

ask for a refund. be polite. give them some actual facts to back up the statement of "it being on the way out" if possible.

but no, they will look to exchange it, or give you a credit note. I would presume they would check it too first. Is the problem with it easy to replicate?

Unfortunately it is an intermittent fault, it comes and goes. 1st time it happened was a few days ago, then its happened twice tonight. Basically the card is producing graphical errors while playing games and so on, although only with certain games.

Ill take it tomorrow and see what they say.
  • Before you do anything, check the receipt and the refunds policy. I don't know about PC world because I buy support my local pc shop *yay!* but 28 day cooldown is normal. Been a long time since I've had to use that legislation as reason to return something but I know that PC World are notorious for being awkward about returns.

Firstly say its faulty, you don't want a replacement because you don't trust the retailer, and want to do some searching for info before you commit to the other - you'll just have your money back please. See what happens?

If it's faulty you have at the very least 1 years warranty.

    Only on certain games!!!!

    It's a driver problem!

What card is it, what games & what driver version are you using!

You can hardly go to PC world when complain about being overcharged.

If you sit under a cows !!!!, don't complain when you get crapped on.

My best advice would be to get a refund, tell the story you were going to, and buy a better spec card online with the same cash.

If you PM your PC specs and how much you have, i'll point you in the right direction online and recommend the best spec for your money.

Price only came into it when the card became faulty and i asked for advice on another forum. If they exchange it ill still be happy enough.

The card is a BFG 9600OC 512MB, its not a driver problem as it was running fine for a while. The problem occurs on higher end games where I think the card is put under a bit more strain, but its well within the specs for the games in question. I think the card may be overheating, although there is plenty of circulation in the case.

It could be a power supply problem. Do you know what wattage your PPC power supply unit is?

I had a similar problem when i bought a new chip & graphics card one time and didn't think abou the fact the PC needed to deliver more power. Do you get crashes to desktop?
