surely they can't take 'the occupier' to court, how can they legally pursue 'somebody' who they don't even have the name of?! is strange that they don't appear to have taken any action, although you have called them so many times.0

Presumably you gave an opening meter reading when you took possession of the property? I would write to them giving all relevant facts (meter reading and dates) saying that your solicitor/estate agent can confirm these if that's appropriate.
Ask them to confirm in writing that the account in the previous owner's name is closed and ask for a statement. I wouldn't do any of this over the phone but would do everything in writing and get proof of posting.0 -
Send a copy of the completion of sale showing the date you took over and make sure you have proof of postage.
They should close the old acount and open a new one. They often won't do this without "proof"0 -

can anyone help ,After the uprising of the 17th June The Secretary of the Writers Union
Had leaflets distributed in the Stalinallee Stating that the people
Had forfeited the confidence of the government And could win it back only
By redoubled efforts. Would it not be easier In that case for the government
To dissolve the people
And elect another?0 -
It is normal practice to send a letter addressed to 'The Occupier' as obviously they have no way of knowing who the new occupier is and when they moved in.
As soon as any electricity is used by the new occupier they have entered a deemed contract.
It would appear that there is a gap between the last meter reading of the old occupant, and your opening reading.
As the house was a re-possession presumably the mortgage company are responsible for the energy used until you bought.
However put everything in writing as advised above.0 -
