M and S Flowers - Order before 5pm

I ordered this bouquet for my mother's birthday as a last minute change of plans meant that I would not be able to see her on her birthday.
I had several options open to me for flowers (other websites and also the local interflora) but as I have always had excellent service and quality from M&S and didnt hesitate to use their "order before 5pm and get delivery the following day" offer on flowers.
My order was indeed processed before 5pm on the 22nd of October and my confirmation email shows this to be the case. However my mother did not receive her bouquet on the 23rd. I got a despatched email after 6pm on the 23rd which of course was then too late to cancel the order or to make other arrangements.
My mother was of course disappointed that her birthday gift had not arrived but as a keen gardener she was looking forward to receiving the flowers today. She was however to be disappointed again as the flowers were not in good condition when they arrived.
The roses were in pristine condition and she commented on how beautiful they were. The alstroemaria however was very squashed and of the 5 included 4 were badly damaged and there were even flower heads off some stems. The leaves were very damaged and generally tatty looking. The gerbera again were stunning but they too were damaged and with a lot of petals missing.

I have emailed them but I do not know what the outcome is likely to be - my mum is a pensioner and has no means of taking a photo of the damaged flowers.
