I Phone emergency!!

my hubby has just bought me an I Phone from ebay.com. he wanted to give it to me all set up and reagy to go even though he knew he would need to get it chipped to use here as it was originally purchased in california. my son persuaded him to let him put the chip in so i could at least use the net and other programs while waiting to geet it cchipped. NOW FOR THE BAD BIT!! he forced my chip in it in the wrong way and when he pulled it out a piece of the card reader pad came out with it. he took it to apple today and they said they wont do anything with it and he had to send it to california. what can i do, besides kill my son and batter my husband?????
