Stenna have been cancelling ferries from Stranraer to Belfast. The HSS ferry due to sail at 1950 tonight was cancelled yesterday and my DS was told at 0045 today to come to the port for the Superferry sailing at 2305 tonight, He arrived to find total bedlam at the ferry port. Superferry also cancelled. These cancellations have not been due to weather conditions. Now after a 350 mile journey across Scotland, he has to sit in his car and wait for the next ferry which is not due until 0500 tomorrow. Anyone with family travelling on Stenna this weekend will need to double check the travel arrangements. Why are Stenna doing this ?

The weather here on Scotland's west coast is atrocious at the moment. We've had 90 mile an hour gusts, heavy rain and flooding with more on the way...Debt-free day: 8th May 2015 "Remember that sometimes not getting what you want is a wonderful stroke of luck," Dalai Llama0

Thats true, the superferry is a catamaran and totally useless on rough seas. I have been on it in a bit of a swell and believe me - the sick bags were in use. Stena wouldn't want to risk their lovely clean new ship either - why cover it with vomit? The traditional roll on ferries are safer in this weather (as long as the bow door is shut).0

see the swell reports for this weekend.... crazy crazy waves

No the cancellations are not due to the weather. The ferry was cancelled before midnight last night and the only explanation was Technical Problems. The scheduled superferry is the slow ferry and it can sail in windy conditions. But the 2305 superferry has been cancelled as well. There are hundreds of motorists stranded in Stranraer Port and the facilities there are dire. They have just been given a voucher for the buffet bar in the port - but this closed a few hours ago.0

The UK news/weather report tonight said severe winds in the irish channel and as a result cancelled ferries.0

Umm, as suggested most likely weather conditions - i dont think they're doing it deliberately?
HSS is a nightmare at this time of year, we lost a day of our hols a couple of years ago in early september because it couldnt sail because of the weather. Ended up getting a late night slow ferry.
I think theres good reason why hauliers generally avoid the HSS.0 -
Should have gone via Larne, quicker & nicer scenery...........:DWhat if the Hokey Pokey really is what it's all about !!!0

Not weather, as stated it is unknown technical difficulties.
Not weather as P & O are sailing no bother 7mile away at Cairnryan without any problems0 -
