administrator without the privelages?

Hi im running win XP, im the ADMINISTRATOR on the account (ive checked in control panel> user accounts) and it says i am...

but im having problem when selecting "properties" of a particular file...

as when i choose properties there is no "security" tab allowing me to change the "premissions for" that file so i can select the permissions types (modify, full control etc) and deny write permissions etc

here is what im trying to do:
  1. In Windows XP etc, hit 'Windows-key - F' to open the Search window. (press the windows key and the 'f' key at the same time).
  2. Type in 'mpsnare' in the Search window.
  3. When the search is completed, if iesnare has been used on your machien you'll usually find two or more folders with names like: #mpsnare.iesnare.com, #ci-mpsnare.iovation.com, mpsnare.iesnare.com and ci-mpsnare.iovation.com.
  4. Select all of these folders, right click and select 'Properties'.
  5. Select the 'Security' tab and then in the section where it says 'Permissions for ', click the 'deny' checkbox for each of the permission types (full control, modify, etc) - you can probably get away with just denying write perms though.
but when i right click the file and select properties, i only get three options:

no security tab

just 3 tabs: general, sharing, customise

under general there are two attributes: "read only" "hidden" and an advanced button next to those

any idea's how i would get the security tab option?

thanks

Go to control panel, select TOOLS from the top menu bar (the file edit... bar)
Then FOLDER OPTIONS and the VIEW. Scroll down to the bottom of the list and uncheck the "USE SIMPLE FILE SHARING - Recommended" option. You should now have your security tab.

Bring XP up in safe mode (press F8 at boot up), then you get the security tabs. They only appear in domain linked computers when running normally.

its just struck me now - are you using XP Home or XP Pro?
I've got XP Pro SP2 (they not done sp3 for x64 yet! Rant!) and I have the option.
