Wet room

Thinking about converting the bathroom into a wetroom. This would mean losing the bath. Would this harm the selling price of the house? FYI, the WC is separate and will probably convert the under stairs cupboard into downstairs loo.

  • In a word - yes!

In more words - if it's a house that families are unlikely to buy or have a second bathroom with a bath in then you may be ok but bathing small children under a shower is virtually impossible..

Sorry you didn't want to hear that did you?

Most of the time yes. "normal people" do love to have a bath. It's only fast-moving, funky, trendy people in shiny city homes that would desire only a wet room.

A wet room as an alternative is one thing, but as the only way to wash it wouldn't work well for most people.

Families with small children prefer a bath.

I wouldn't buy a house without a bath. As well as bathing children, I like a soak in the bath when I'm feeling under the weather or tired. My husband goes in quite a lot too.

I'd also prefer a cupboard under the stairs rather than an extra loo. Small children have far too much clutter so storage is important to families looking to buy a home.

It all depends on the type of people who would want to buy your home when you come to sell really.
Here I go again on my own....

Thought about doing this, as an en-suite, at our place.

Then became 'sensible' & opted for a shower instead.
Thinking about it, wish we'd had the en-suite with no walls & had a bath, as well, all in the one room!!

So, in a funky appartment, it'd be a cool installation.

Anywhere else, it'd be the first think people would change - if the ever bought the house!!

Even Sarah Beeny said, several times, same as above Moneysavers - you do need to have a bathroom, with a bath!!

But if you want a wet room - HAVE ONE!!
