Could it have been that she also had a Select saver which at that time offered a higher rate of credit interest than other savings accounts?0

Thanks for your response. My Mother only has one Bank account, that is used for a small pension of my deceased Father, which pays for a couple of monthly direct debits. She has no savings.0 -

Thirteen years of not reading their statements? Sorry, but cries of "honest folk" or not, I really have no sympathy for such a case. That's just negligent on their part.
This post does you no credit. You are probably too young to remember, but there was a day when the Bank Manager was a pillar of society, and many elderly folk today still have this perception. You should respect this - and not belittle them for their views.0 -
This is an example of what I am trying to get at in my post-'banks and the mis-seling of products'. Someone at this customers branch has behaved disfunctionally because of the stick/carrott combination. Please add your vote/comments. Every week some trusting soul will get ripped-off until something is done to prevent it.0

Those kind of comments don't do anyone any favours to be quite frank.

As I intend to "question" the Bank regarding my 82 year old Mother having a Select Account for maybe 10+ years (further details in my previous post) Can anyone suggest the wording a letter to the Bank should take to try and recover the charges on my Mothers behalf ? Should I state mis-selling from the offset or is there an alternative "coin of phrase" to use, which may help recover some of the charges paid ?

many thanks for sharing your info.0 -
A select account is not necessary to have unless you use the benefits.
It is a very old account which is no longer marketed.
A lot of people choose the Silver account instead which costs £7.95 (make sure and use the benefits if you do)
You can still have a free Classic account.
If this has been going on for years and you have just realized it negligence on your part.
Ring the bank and ask to be downgraded. It takes 10 mins to get sorted if you are unhappy.
As for getting your money back, your chances are 0.
