I dont think they do...my friend was recently made redundant and she told the benefits office about the redundancy package and the fact she had mortgage protection insurance and they seem to think that she is still entitled. As far as I know it wont affect your unemployment benefits. I could be wrong though as I havent spoken to her for a couple of weeks so things may have changed since we last discussed this.0 -
they did and assume they still do,however the period that income support is affected still counts towards the current 39 week waiting period for ISMIpetunia100 wrote: »If you become unemployed do they take off mortgage protection payments off your benfits ?0 -

welcome to the mad world of benefit:rolleyes:petunia100 wrote: »So if they do, then you can't pay your mortgage because you would have to use the money to live on which seems unfair.0 -
The Jobcentre (JCP) does not take these payment into consideration.
Generally there is a 39 week wait (13 weeks from April 2009) anyway before you receive help from JCP with Income Support Mortgage Interest (ISMI). If your mortage protection payments continue to be paid after the 39 week waiting period it simply means the JCP won't also pay ISMI until these payments stop.I'll get you, my pretty, and your little dog too!0 -

That's o.k. then.
Is there a web site that confirms this?0 -

Surely you use the mortgage protection money to pay the mortgage and live on your IS?

If you mean about whether they take the mortgage protection into consideration then no I don't know off the top of my head if there are any websites but if you ring the JCP they'll confirm.
About the reduction in waiting times http://www.dwp.gov.uk/aboutus/news/I'll get you, my pretty, and your little dog too!0 -

Yes that's right. It just wouldn't make any sense the other way.I'll get you, my pretty, and your little dog too!0 -
We were told any payment protection that you did not profit from e.g. loan or mortgage for the exact amount or lower are not taken away from benefits0
