Halfords - Bike tyre rip off prices

I don't understand why you can't see a blatant rip off when the facts are clearly laid out.
The point is they are both selling low tech rubber goods produced in third world sweatshops - Halfords choose to charge a greedy high price, I choose to buy equivalent product at a massive saving elsewhere. I think that makes me a bit of a money saver which surely is the point of this forum.
Yes, but your argument is too simplistic. Clearly we could apply the analogy to other goods and services. A good example may be Heinz Beans. Supermarket X might sell these at 70p a can. Next to it are own brand, which in some cases may actually be made by Heinz for 35p a can. Same/similar product but a different price. Example two, cars. you buy a VW Polo for £11,000 but could get a similar spec SEAT Ibiza which is part of the VW group for £8,000. Example 3. Cup of tea in a greasy spoon is a £1, same cuppa in a Dept store cafe might be £1.50. I could go on but you get the point. You are failing to account for the brand and the intrinsic value people place on that brand, which in turn affects a product/service perceived value and the price Joe Public will pay. You must also factor that different stores will have different cost structures and margins which will also affect the sale price. Finally price sensitivity is also a factor. Wilko's is a budget brand so people who shop there expect to pay a lower price compared to competitors. If your displeasure centres on the premise that all similar/equivalent products should sell at similar prices across a market then it is quite possibly one of the most naive arguments I have ever heard. I'm not sure which I'm more surprised at. The fact you felt it worthy to even write to Halfords or the fact they even bothered to furnish you with a reply. I don't mean to sound harsh but this whole topic is frankly stupid. You found goods at a price acceptable to you which represented a saving compared to other retailers. Well done, move on, live a little0 -
Halfords inner tubes last longer full stop i have tried both0

Halfords, along with other retailers seem to use the 'lets put up our prices for X days, and then have a sale for a few days, taking X% off......looks like the OP went in on a 'full price' day!!
We are looking for a cycle carrier, the one we wanted was £48 in the sale, but out of stock...now they are back in stock, but gone up to £90:eek:
I'll just keep checking online, and when there is another sale on, I'll go and buy it (thats if its still in stock by then!):rotfl:0 -
Have to say, it seems that £4.99 is "cheap" for a tyre, £12.99 seems around "average" to me - go into any cycle store and ask for their cheapest tyre. They won't have one for £5. You can't call anyone that isn't the cheapest a rip-off, it just doesn't work like that.
As for inner tube, even buying online in bulk you tend to pay around £3 a pop, so £5, for a one off, it's probably not too bad.0 -
