Advice Please on Double Glazing

I am considering installing double glazing, and would be grateful for advice from people such as the main factors to consider, and which websites to research the subject, plus, if the forum permits, some firms in the Berkshire area that people have used recently and can recommend. Also, with winter approaching, is it preferably to wait until the spring for the installation, obviously to replace the windows when the weather is warmer? Thanks.

There several threads on this forum about double glazing. The general opinion is to check out your local companies and get names of recent customers from them. They will almost certainly not be as expensive as the big nationals. As to getting it done during the winter, well it usually does not take very long to do and you have no idea what the weather will be like next spring. Going on the weather this year, you would have had a problem forecasting a suitable dry spell. In addition, the price might well have gone up by next year. Can't help with names in your area.

Get lots of quotes and ask for timescales, Everest were advertising a 35% discount recently so would expect a lot of firms to follow suit. Now is the best time to get it done as that means you get your heat saving this winter.

Biggest tip from me is that the quoted price is fully negotiable! I got about them down about 50% and this was back in April 2007. Now, with people spending less on their homes, double glazing firms will be crying out for sales.
  • Hi, just browsing, n happen to stumble into this thread. I work within the Double Glazing industry, and believe me, u do get what you pay for. Im not saying get the dearest, im not saying get the cheapest, but please enquire how long the business has been established, ask them if maybe you could visit an installation of theres within your area, and ask about
For the last few months alot of companies have dissappeared and reappeared ( if you know what i mean ) some just take the money and run.

I would look for a company that speaks for itsself, if the company is doing well then you wont find an advert, cos the customers sell for themselves.

I have worked for the present company 5 years, and to this day we have never advertised.
