Price for drawing up blueprints

Hello,
I've had a quote of £300 for someone to draw up some plans for a ground floor extension (kitchen enlargement+util room and a downstairs bathroom).
It would run along the entire side of house for 1 storey, around 2 meters wide by 8 long. He'll advice with the planning process as well. Does this price seem fair?

sounds reasonable, ask to see some similar jobs they may have done in the past and try to speak to some previous clients to see if they are happy with the service.
i assume the plans would be used for building regulation approval also, check that any calculations that woul dbe needed are included in that price or not.
    :D
I am a building surveyor and will provide advice based upon what you tell me. It is just that, advice and not instructions. Based on the fact you're getting it for free expect it to be vague! :D

It sounds very cheap. Ask to see some other plans they have done and check exactly what they will do towards getting planning permission. Highly unlikely to include the required calculations for building warrant though so you probably need to find a structural engineer to do them, architect may have someone they use.

You do not get much done for £300 nowadays, so probably this is quite reasonable if he makes a good job of it. I seem to remember paying that sort of money many years ago.
I also had to pay extra to a structural engineer to check some steelwork calculations.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.
  • Sounds very reasonable - is he an architect or an architectural technician? The latter is cheaper but perfectly competent for a residential extension.

The price is probably just for the planning application drawings, rather than full structural drawings for building control too.

I paid £300 to get a complete set of plans for my new build but that was a family friend who drew it so I reckon £300 for an extension is pretty good.
