Six reasons to be optimistic

  • Mortgage rates look like being a lot lower next year (anything tied to BoE +1% will be nice - less than 5% - there might even be fixes < 5% too) - this will make people feel better off, and the issue of huge swathes of people being stuck on high rates won't, IMO be as big a problems as people were predicting only a little while ago.
18 May 2007 (start of Mortgage):
    Coventry Offset Mortgage £220800
    Offset Savings: £0
    Mortgage Balance: £220,800

    14 Jan 08
    Coventry Offest Mortgage: 219002
    Offset Savings: 28200
    Mortage Balance: £190802

And still chucking every spare penny into it!

It's pretty annoying, but thankfully they are a tiny minority in society as a whole.

and it seems that they all manage to be on this board... :)

Very true. But not a tiny minority on here. My goodness there are some people getting really miserable about stuff that has a tiny impact upon them as individuals. I think its indicative of there being part of society that revels in other people's misfortune because it makes them feel less bad about their own inadequacies and poor choices.

I also think that it is indicative of these people that they have 'issues' with society due to their own mistakes and also misfortunes and blame BTLers, bankers etc instead of looking at themselves.

this forum does not require the social skills that are required that they probably are missing, it is also a a good release for them to be fair.

I never ment to upset anyone, it was just a slightly tongue in cheek response to the OP . I sold my BTL August 07, the money is safely in the bank (several banks, none of them Icelandic) and my dream of buying a bigger place for my family is getting closer by the day. My job looks secure and I have a beautiful wife, two pretty daughters and a baby on the way.

Sorry if I sound bitter. I don't think it is all doom and gloom, I'm not sure how deep the real recession will be, not as bad as the media coverage portrays things I am sure. I think there is a small possibility of systemic failure leading to social disruption but hopefully the govt do have the necessary tools to mitigate this if it does occur.

Edit: Before I am condemned as a misery bringing, greedy BTL landlord; the property was my wife's house from before we were married that she decided to rent out after we got married rather than selling straight away.
    I think....

The likelihood of getting stuck in a lift with all the doom mongers on here is less than that of being killed by a lightning strike - woo hoo!:j

i don't think that you've done anything wrong, please don't be sorry.

you've done the best for your family - many believe that a BTLer are lowest of the low and parasites apparantly and should be burned at the stake. those times have changed fortunately.

Think it's more about people enjoying a harmless hobby. A bit like a group of elderly gentlemen (you see them more on the continent, where they've got the weather) sitting chatting and putting the world to rights.

Hmm, but too many on here want to put the world to wrong treliac. We should be counting our blessings compared with so many other countries.
