Have you been affected by your condition for more than 3 months?

Do you need a lot of care by someone else?

Do you struggle with your mobility?

If you can answer yes to any of them it's worth wanging a form in :T

  • My wife had a heart-attack 24 months ago. Most victims are considered to make a full recovery so, we were advised, that DLA would probably not be applicable. I think it's more to do with the impact that such an attack might subsequently have on your ability to care for yourself. There is no hit-list of conditions that qualify your for DLA - otherwise life would indeed be much simpler on this front. My wife then went on to suffer further complications and was ultimately diagnosed with having a long-term heart defect which restricts here day-to-day activity. On this basis, she was awarded a very small amount of DLA .. although we had to appeal in order to receive this. So, having a heart-attack doesn't qualify you for DLA in itself. However, if you're unlucky enough to sucumb to problems as a result then you might be due some consideration. It's not an easy ride though!

Here is a link to the Directgov site regarding eligibility to DLA

    http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/DisabledPeople/FinancialSupport/DisabilityLivingAllowance/DG_10011816

If any of the criteria apply then put in a claim.

its not the medical condition thats makes you eligible for DLA but the care and or mobility issues you have because of it,you have to have needed the help for the previous 3 months and expect to need it for at least the next 6 months. If in doubt I would suggest you get the forms and claim, preferably having 1)done as much research as possible and 2)elisted the help of cab or welfare rights
