I've just got a new PC with vista and my BT landline is dead when I plug in the broadband. The main socket is downstairs with a filter and the sky plus thingy and an extension upstairs to a phone socket with another filter onto the modem.I'm conected to broadband no probs but the phone downstairs has no dial tone.I've checked with a phone that both sockets are working and I presume the filters are working as I am conected to the internet.I'm stumped can anyone help?

Could be dodgy filters, it could also be the polarity of the extension is wrong...
Does it all work when the sky+ thing is connected, just to rule that out as a problem?0 -
Okay, the phone works when I plug it directly into the socket upstairs.Does that rule out anything downstairs? So dodgy filter upstairs perhaps? Everything worked fine before I got a new PC and nothing else inc wiring has changed."Sometimes life sucks....but the alternative is unacceptable."0

If it works when you plug it in directly to the socket upstairs, but if you plug it through the ADSL filter upstairs and it doesn't work, then it's definitely the filter.
If it is, bin the cheap ones, and get some quality filters from ADSL-Nation they make a massive difference.
Else we need to carry on fault finding!0
