Car insurance - urgent question

Im wondering if anyone can offer any ideas/advice.I arranged car insurance on a car I was buying only to find out that the car was not the owners to sell.I backed out very quickly but rightly or wrongly I left my insurance running whilst looking for another car which I have now found. The new car is rated 3 groups lower than the first one but is 5yrs younger and £2500 more expensive. It has taken me about 3 or 4wks to find the new car and on contacting my insurers they want an additional premium of £70 to insure the new car.The original premium was £190 and if I cancel now I will receive about £100 back.I have run a pricing check on go compare for the new car and got a quote of £164.00.I just feel like I am being stung but am I being unfair or unreasonable.I have to arrange the insurance today as I am collecting the new car this evening so any thoughts or advice would be welcomed.

Your not being stung, the £70 is charged if you make any changes to the policy, its your choice what you do, depending on how much you would gte back i would cancel the current policy and start a new 1 for £1640

The premium being asked is neither unfair, nor unreasonable - presumably you were happy with the original deal, and it is you who want to make changes, not your insurer, who for whatever reason is not so competitive on your new car.
On a practical note, see if you can get your new car insured via a cashback site - maybe a combination of the £100 refund and (say) £65 cashback will be a better deal overall.0
