External to the wall Gas Inlet

I have just taken out a gas fire that looks a little like this one but has an external gas inlet. If I want to fit something similar to what they have done in the link with a marble hearth and back plate do I need to channel out the wall 1st and get a gas engineer to put a pipe through the wall?

  • I'd check with your gas fitter. If the pipe is to be hidden in the wall it will need protecting from corrsion caused by the chemicals in plaster/concrete. (I'm not sure if it needs to be yellow pvc coated).

My friend had a fire fitted recently and I think the pipe travels under the floorboards and then under the the hearth and up into the space behind the back hearth.

Why not ask the gas fitter who removed your fire?
  • Thanks for the info. The gas company are coming on 5th to sweep the chimney so ill ask then. Just thought someone might be able to tell me where the pipe goes cause im not sure if i can fit the surround before they come?
