disputing a electricity bill

i have just received a letter from a debt collecting agency from an address i lived in just over 4 years ago stating that i owe powergen now known as e-on almost £180! the thing is i have never been with powergen... i was with british gas on prepayment meters this was due to the fact that i had two young daughters and was not working at the time. The dates on the bill however have been dated from jan 2004 - sept 2004. This i find RATHER ODD due to the fact i moved out of this property in JUNE 2004!

what can i do about this! its really annoying that they are saying they can not show me proof that i changed suppliers and also that i have moved out during the time the bill was taking place!

this is the first contact powergen (e-on) have had with me in 4 YEARS so i find it very hard to believe that i have run up this bill when i wasnt at the address for 3 months of this time!

PLEASE HELP! i am sending a letter but i dont know if this will help!

thanks

Think back very carefully. You say you have never been with Powergen/eon?
Yet they know you by name and have taken the trouble to track you down to a new address.

You also say "this is the first contact powergen (e-on) have had with me in 4 YEARS". Have they contacted you at all previously? Why have they done that if you have never been their customer?

If you can't remember agreeing to powergen/eon being your supplier, ask for the proof that they have already admitted they hold :)
