I am registered disabled and get dla i also am in reciept of income support and incapacity benefit, I have 3 children living at home, my friends say that i am also entitled to Child Tax Credits, but i've never claimed as i were under the impression that when child tax credits came out, it were to replace income support.
Plz advise me if i am entitled to claim this or not. Thanx in advance.

Hi
Can only answer in broad terms so hope this ok. Some people who have been on IS a long time get an additional amount for their children. For newer claims this wasn't an option and they had to claim Child Tax Credit instead. To find out if you do get an amount for children have a look at your latest letter from DWP where it will show you how they've calculated the amount you get.
If you are not getting an extra amount for children, you should claim child tax credits by ringing HMRC tax credit helpline 0845 300 900.
Again broadly speaking you should be able to claim for children you are still getting child benefit for eg. are under 16 or still in full time education up to 19 years.
To get a benefit check see the CAB, unemployed workers centre or your local authority Welfare Rights Service. The Cabbage
