Parents PC won't play videos by mine will

Hi.
I recently downloaded some videos from my parents camcorder onto their PC as .wmv files. However when we tried to play the videos on the PC we got sound but no picture (it showed the randomised thing you get with music files). However I copied those files onto a blank CD and played them on my PC and they played perfectly fine.
Both computers use Windows XP and are fully updated using Windows Media Player 10.
What else could we check to try and explain this difference?

I have worked for 5 years as a Pension Administrator and then a further year in a non-administrator pension role. I am not (and never have been) an adviser. Do not take anything I say as advice, it is information given on the best of my knowledge.
