Child Tax Credit And Illness

Has anybody got a older child at college (18 +) who has interrupted their education due to illness and who received Child Tax Credit. I have been told that it may be possible to be paid for an interruption in education, but wonder if the tax credit will be stopped. My child has an ongoing medical condition which does affect attendance and college this year want to chuck them out and for them to re-apply in September. As a lone parent caring for the child the tax credits help financially and when they stop it is going to put us in a very stressful situation. I really want to know if anyone has successfully been awarded child tax credit still, despite their chld being ill for a period??????? Thank you.

Can the young person claim Incapacity under the youth rules? Think the rules about child benefit and tax credits are for youngsters in education . I am sure someone who knows more will be along to advise.0

If your child leaves education now and doesnt return until next September you must end the CTC straight away. I am sure that this would also be the same for child benefit.
Continuing in an educational course with a small gap in attendance due to illness is different to ending the course and re-starting a year later.0 -
For Child Benefit the extension period was always 13 weeks, so if they leave now then all claims for benefits will be ended after that extension period. Unless that's changed recently. No longer using this account for new posts from 20130

It might be worth while for your child to see someone at Connexions about joining an E2E course for the period while s/he is out of education. How old will s/he be next September?0

Hi....Both child tax credit and child benefit can remain payable.
The Inland revenue can ignore education interruptions for up to 6 months and and also an interruption of any length which is due to a young persons illness or disability
This only applies if the Revenue thinks it is reasonable to do so0 -
