Help - why won't data cable link mobile to PC?

I have a mobile phone, and a data cable for it. However, when attached to the PC, I cannot see my mobile indicated anywhere. I see My Computer, and within that Local Disk C and Compact Disc D, but nothing shows my mobile phone connected. I got some software from the mobile phone company website for file transfers, and installed it, but it made no difference. I can't find any (obvious) setting on my mobile that would 'hide' my mobile from other 'devices'. Anyone clever enough to know why my PC is not showing my mobile phone? All I want to do is drag some files from the mobile to my PC. I've tried Bluetooth and found it unreliable. So got a data cable thinking it would be a better and easier solution. Thanks for any help.

Sorry Tettle ~ I cant find a specific download for it
Just as an off chance, make sure its pushed far enough in (its a mistake a LOT of people make initially)
There may also be a CONNECTION menu within the samsung itself:idea:0 -
Your phone should have a setting to use it as a mass storage device ...
Your pc should recognise this and show it as a removable device, then you can drag and drop files to it.Always follow the path of least resistance.0 -
I've pushed the data cable in good and hard both ends. Nothing. I've checked every menu option on my phone, and I cannot find anything for 'mass storage device' or any setting that seems relevant. I realize my pc should recognise my phone and show it as a removable device so I can drag and drop files to it. But this is what I can't figure. It never shows.0

Did it ever come up and ask or automatically install (on the PC) drivers / new hardware detected?. Often mobile phones will appear automatically, but some required drivers to access their storage, facilities through software etc.
Some devices you have to connect first, install software secondly (or when it's detected), others the software/drivers must be installed before connection.
Have you tried the Samsung Support site?0 -
Have you installed Samsung PC Studio? The latest version is available to download from the Samsung Mobile website. PC Studio should auto-detect most Samsung phones connected to your PC and allow file transfers to the actual phone memory, whereas any connected memory card will appear in My Computer.0
