uPnP and PS3

I'm trying to play my PS3 online, but after a while the connection goes.
The only difference that I can see different from my connection and others, is that my uPnP is not available. Yet I've made this available on my router options.
Is there anything else I can do? Open up the ports?
Also is there a security issue if you make uPnP available?

if you have a netgear router and a ps3, then you will have to forward the ports as i cant seem to get upnp to work with my ps3 and netgear dg834g.
anyway, heres how to forward the ports on a netgear router and also the ports you need.0 -
Thanks for that - I've seen that piece of software, but I've got a 3com router that's over 5 years old and it's not on the list there.
What NAT is yours?0 -
mine is type 2 when i had it connected to my netgear, as i manually forwarded all the ports for PSN to it. i now have it connected to another computer running a linux firewall distribution and turned upnp on in the settings for it and it seems to work ok.cooldudecol wrote: »Thanks for that - I've seen that piece of software, but I've got a 3com router that's over 5 years old and it's not on the list there.

try manually forwarding the ports to it as that worked for me. all the port numbers you ned to forward in your router are in this link under PlayStation®Network.
hope this helps

Have a read through this guide:
http://www.orpheusinternet.co.uk/support/ps3/firewall.html
It has resources for setting up the console at the bottom.0
