I have been getting my house ready to move into, the prev tennent had a gas meter fitted and was with EDF so I figured it would be nice and easy to just call them up and get my gas and electric with them, make it clear I was the new tenant.
I got my keys the first week of July and I really stressed this to the lady I spoke to when she took my details, the house was empty from March and belongs to a local housing assosiation. She said she willl send a new gas card so Im not potentially paying off someones debt etc.
The card arrived, I put £10 on it and put it in the meter. Low and behold £7 was taken off and I was left with £3 gas. I called them up and after waiting on hold for almost 40mins I got through to a man who told me money was taken off to pay for the emergency gas used by the prev tennant before he left and to pay off some of the debt he left!!!!!!!
The lady I had spoken to prev had put me down as living there since March!! It took me ages to convince him it was not me that had used the emergency gas. I was told to call a number mon-fri between 9-5 to get someone out the same day to re-set the meter and that they could come out the same day, any tme up until 8pm but cant give an allocated time
This is no good for me as I don't live in the house yet and it is totally empty apart from tins of paint!! I can't sit in an empty house until 8 o'clock at night because of THEIR error :mad::mad:
sorry, rant over! you may continue with what you were doing

If you really really need the gas on, then pay whatever the meter is looking for, I'm assuming it's not a massive amount. And then at least your gas will be on - then contact EDF they should refund you the money. Poss a quicker solution than waiting for edf to sort things out.0

I can't as whatever I put on the meter, a % will be taken towrads the prev tennants debt its just a matter of finding a day in the week when I wont have my daughter and can sit in the house0 -
Yes there is possibly a weekly amount coming off the meter for the old person's debt. If you go through the settings on the meter, you can find out how much per week that is. Contact EDF and tell them you are moving in today! they may get you a call out today? just a though.0

Yeah, when I call Im going to have a rant about it and may consider moving providers. She blatently didn't listen to a word I said when I signed up0 -
If you told a 'small lie'
And told them you are moving in today with your daughter, surely they need to get it put on as some kind of priority, they can't leave you without gas..... worth a shot!! 0 -
