My 3year old computer has only one USB which my broadband is connected to. Iwould like to use my digital camera. Do not know anything about computers so what do i need.

A powered USB hub, a 4 port hub will give you 4 USB ports. Should be able to pick one up for under a tenner from somewhere like

Plug that into your USB port and then plug your BB and digital camera etc into it0 -
