The trouble is after reading all the replies I`m no clearer should I still have this price fix or stop it now before it starts. I`m only on Elec (no gas in my village) its elec`storage heaters. I get a boost sent down in the afternoon do ALL elec` companies do this as I was told only Manweb/Scottish Power did it??0

I got the same in a letter but I have decided against it. The rate you are getting is the same as the standard rate and only till May. I am optimistic that there will be a cut (however small) and will fix then. If we are in a reccession then they would be hung, drawn and quartered if they tried rises like a few months ago especially as fuel prices have came down so much! Here's a thought for you all - when prices were going up the fixed deals were removed from the market, now they are fixing them automatically and the onus is on us to contact them to cancel it (which most people will maybe forget about it). No way they would do that if prices were on the way up! When I called them to query this new fixed deal they would not cancel it over the phone and told me to send the reply slip back. Why should I have to do this as I did not want this fixed deal in the first place? Also tried the scaring tactics about prices rises etc. Sounds like just another way to bleed us I dry I think! Like they really honestly care about giving us the best deal - more like their shareholders!0

getting more cynical about the whole process by the day! talk about building up a crisis...the suppliers made us into terrified sheep....and of course the sensationalist media.....talk about forcing the market to move! the media has talked us into one disaster after another. For what I've done...I start again...And whatever pain may come ...Today this ends... I'm forgiving what I've done -AF since June 20070

I have searched all the comparison sites for Duel Fuel and each shows for my consumption that I would be better with British Gas by about £150 per annum but no way would I join that lot!! apart from the fact it is a variable rate.
I have phoned Scottish Power and am told that although this tariff is fixed until May 2009 if prices fall I can opt out without penalty.
With regard to the comments in the Daily Express about the cost of oil falling, bear in mind that the price of oil is quoted in US dollars - it has fallen from a peak of 134$ to about 100$. At the same time the pound has fallen against the dollar from about 1.80 to 1.55 so according to my calculations on the basis of these figures a barrel of oil when the price peaked would be about £75 compared with about £65 now, not as big a drop as one might think. However my calculations are simplistic and no not take into account forward contracts etc.
Also it could well be that in the heavily populated Northern Hemisphere, with winter coming on, the price of oil could once more escalate with demand which would make Scottish Powers offer feasible until the summer months arrive..
It looks at the moment that I will accept Scottish Powers offer BUT this is not a recommendation on my part.
NB As I write this note there is talk of OPEC cutting back on production which in itself would increase prices.0 -

Where do you get $100 oil? more like $64.'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0
