How do you use underfloor heating efficiently?

Hi

I've just moved in to a rented property which has electric underfloor heating throughout and I have finally decided that the time has come to set it up for the winter.

I have limited instructions to hand which offer me some guidance but I would appreciate the thoughts of any moneysavers who have such a system installed in terms of how they set it (in terms of when you have it on and how long for etc.)

The instructions seem to suggest it works on a kind of Economy 7 basis, i.e. I should have it on through the night, is this right?

All feedback and advice welcomed

I dont know much about underfloor heating. Is there not a timer for it? If so you can see when its set to come on and go off which would give a clue when it is designed to come on.

Would be interested to hear what you think of it. I come back from a Paris apartment that had it installed. Apparently it was working but apart from it feeling warm under foot the room wasn't warm wasn't cold. How do you find it when its on?
  • With the underfloor heating you should have the room thermostat. The programs on the thermostat range from having two heating periods a day to the ones that we sell that have eight. Basically this means you can program the floor to heat up at different temps eight times a day.

You can also overide the set temps by the overide button, this will warm the floor to your desired overide temp.

To leave the underfloor heating on over night in our point of view would be a waste of money unless you want to heat the room overnight. In our conservatory we start the heating approx an hour before we are due to get up. This will give the floor time to warm up and give the room an hour to slowly warm up.. We program it to turn off the minute we walk out. Then we program it to come on approx an hour before the first one of us arrives home in the evening.

The beauty of it is everyones life style varies so you can program it to suit. Just ensure you have the correct programing instructions!

Interesting. Sounds like basically set the timer for an hour before you come home and switch it off when you go out. Im guessing the room thermostat is used to regulate the room once its upto heat. 22-23 in the living room (Abit warmer as you are generally sitting down and not moving) and 18-20 in other parts.
