We are expecting our first child, and recently went to The Baby Show in London where we saw the 'Amby Baby Hammock'
Friends of ours in USA have one and swear by it, so we thought that we would buy one.
Went to the website dealing with sales, and there are links to the various distributors dealing with particular territories.
To buy in USA costs £113.
To buy in Australia for shipping worldwide (except UK and other covered territories) costs £117
To buy in UK costs £161
As the sole distributor in the UK they have us over a barrel. I know it is law of supply/demand etc and all the other arguments, but it still really annoys me...
Grrrrr
*Feel better now*
p.s. Have emailed the firm to ask how they justify this dichotomy - if anyone else is interested, will post their response (if I get one)

An exchange rate of $1.9 to £1
No VAT in the USA.
Delivery costs from the USA to the UK
If you had done the conversion this time last year, you would have had a very different result. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

i totally agree with you
(the actual exchange rate you get from a shop that doesn't charge you commision to exchange your money is $1.80 for tourists rates but it buys them off you for no commison charge at $1.98.)See even when they are not charging you they are still ripping you off......©..®..(TM) NothingVentured.

Have you considered asking your friends in the US to buy one for you and send it to you through the post?Just run, run and keep on running!0

You could buy the thing from the States, but I'd imagine when you add in VAT and import duty which will be levied by HM Customs & Excise, plus delivery charges, you won't be saving much. And if there is a problem you'll have to send it back to the States.student100 hasn't been a student since 2007...0
