Thanks to advice on this thread, the very next time I went to the cash and carry i bought a massive bit of cheese, £11 block, only it was £9 when I got to till? Anyway I got the processor out and whizzed the cheese into grated and its working out really well!
They do lovely bacon, can you freeze that!!??0 -
I too love cheese, but beware of freezing soft cheeses for more than a few weeks............poor husband, who detests cheese (and smell that goes with it) drove from France, via England and Scotland to N. Ireland with a load of the stuff in the boot.......I put it in the freezer, but after about six weeks they just lost texture and flavour. Hard cheese seems to last longer though.
I've kept bacon in the freezer for months and it's been fine.......you can also freeze it if it's been cooked.
Another favourite of mine is mushrooms......if I see them marked down in the supermarket I buy loads and either boil them to add to casseroles or toss them in butter to use on their own and then freeze in portion sizes.
And finally parsley........great if you get a big bunch.......wash, chop, put in freezer bag and use as much as you need at a time.
Sorry if I got a bit carried away with that, but I couldn't live without my freezer!0 -
Thanks! All freezing tips gratefully accepted! ;D0

My friend used to have frozen sandwiches during the winter at school. Her mum used to make 10 individual cheese sandwiches on a Sunday night for her 2 kids, put in freezer and take out each morning for school.
Always ok in Summer but NOT when very cold!! They were often frozen in the middle. ;D
She was my slim friend! I was the chunky one - my Nan made mine and was v. generous.Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...0 -

Yes, although it goes a bit yellow while it's frozen

Cheese tends to go all crumbly after freezing, to avoid this, wrap cheese tightly in cling film before freezing. Allow to defrost slowly for a couple of days in the fridge before opening.
