Lidl Returns Policy

Two days ago I bought a cordless phone from Lidl. The same day I found Aldi sold a set of two for 29.99, so I bought those. Today when I took the Lidl phone back (unopened and with a receipt), they said they couldnt refund me as it was not faulty. Perhaps if I had opened the pack and said it wasnt working I would have got a refund. Does anyone know what their returns policy is?

Not sure about the official policy, but found them not to be as helpful as Aldi.
I returned a computer item, which when i opened it, had a European 2 pin plug fitted (a molded plastic non-changeable one...).
Before even looking at it the manager told me that if it was stated "European" on the box then there was nothing he could do about it..... i think he was actually being serious until i started laughing uncontrollably at him... :rolleyes:0 -
My one is ok they accept items back if you dont like them (was about 2 months ago when i last did this) but have to be unused, if it costs over £10 then you have to wait for a refund to come by cheque from head office.0

They have a "No Quibble" refund policy....whilst I haven't checked the official wording (assuming one exists) but that to me means....whatever the reason.... you can return the item for a refund... that said... this page http://www.lidl.co.uk/gb/home.nsf/pages/c.service.au.sl.ser
does suggest that a refund is at the absolute discretion of the store manager.
Two weeks ago I returned a year old DVD recorder that had a fault, I am still waiting for the check but the manager was happy to allow the refund once he had approval from the area manager.0 -
Just go back and speak to a different sales assistant. They should take it back. I bought a 8 piece dinner set last week and when I took it home I realised that it wasn't dishwasher or microwave safe. I got a refund without any questions being asked.0

This is actually illegal. We once had to recall thousands of lighting from shops we had supplied when we realised our importer had supplied us with 2 pin plugs by mistake.Look after the pennies and the £££s will look after themselves0 -
I heard that branches of Lidl held franchises, perhaps that this would explain the differing standards of service ?0

Lidl don't have a no quibble policy that's Aldi. Lidl will take faulty items back no probs but I've found they're not so happy on "unsuitable" anymore, my wife had a checkout girly ask if "she was sure there wasn't anything wrong with it nudge, nudge, in which case no problem", so from now on everything is faulty.0

One of my local stores won't budge if an item isn't faulty. If it is faulty they test it there and then and if the fault isn't obvious or they don't see it as a fault they will not refund.0

I've just had cause to return an item from Lidl. Similar story as the OP. New unopened item which I sought to return less than 24 hours after I bought it (duplicate purchase). Manager advised that I need to write to head office for return authorisation code, and she couldn't do anything else for me. She said that this was a relatively recent change in the last two months or so, before that they were refunding.
Nothing unlawful about Lidl's position (though arguably the failure to state "your statutory rights are not affected" may be). Make it as difficult as possible to return your items, that way less likely to get people returning things, which equals money in the bank for Lidl.
I've written to them now and will update on what occurs.Girls only want boyfriends who have great skills. You know, like nunchuck skills, bowhunting skills, computer hacking skills...0 -
I managed to flog the phone at a cheaper price to my mate. From now on I will be very careful what I buy from Lidl (not that I visit Lidl more than once a year!).0
