Bush TV problem - advice please!

We've been given a 28" widescreen Bush tv and it's faulty...other half thought he could get it fixed but has been told by a friend of a friend that it's a software problem and therefore grin and bear it, as it can't be fixed.....does this sound right? I'll be giving a repair guy a call tomorrow but thought I'd post here in case anyone was in the know. When you turn the TV on at the mains the standby button comes on - press a button on the remote to take it off standby and turn it on and it dies, the standby button turns itself off and you get nowhere
Hoping that someone might be able to shed some light......

It sounds like you have a problem with the switched mode power supply,it will probably be repairable, but with the price ov TV's being so cheap you might be better off buying a new one.0

It could be all sorts of things which are causing the set to "trip", some of which could be expensive, as mr_fishey says. But whatever it is, it's not a "software problem"!Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.0

I would agree, definitely not a 'software' problem.
There's a known problem with these Vestel manufactured TVs which manifests itself by the set not switching on on the first press of the remote - pressing the button twice within, say, a second or so will often switch the TV on. Eventually even this fails to work.
It's an easy repair using a few cheap components, but repairs are now often uneconomical due to the labour costs - you have to consider how old the TV is, and the cost of repair against a new one.0 -
A great ending for this thread :j
We went to Comet and they had a Managers Special (no remote) widescreen tv for £159.00, which we were thinking of getting we went and debated it over the weekend and I decided to make one last phone call to see how much the 'broken' one would be to get fixed. Nice guy on the end of the phone said Bush ones aren't that expensive to fix, so would be around £35.....and the best news of all he could look at it Saturday and fix it  So, for the pricely some of £37.50 inc vat we now have a widescreen fully working tv, hubby is well over the moon and that's his Christmas pressie sorted! :xmastree:0 -
