Heating Quote!

We have a non combi boiler - it is old but working well BUT my MIL has said she will help us out with the cost of a combi boiler and shower.
A local firm who did my mates quoted 2,400 to put in the new combi boiler in the cupboard where water tank is (current boiler is in the kitchen) the quote includes the cost of the shower, thermostat on the wall. We also asked for a new radiator in our bedroom as it is a pain and has cold spots in it. (they said they flush the system when the put a new boiler in so this may remove the need for a new rad in the main bedroom)
The guy hasnt put his quote in writting (am going to ring him tomorrow and ask him to do this).
Is this expensive? (I am in bedfordshire) My friend had him do her system (for oh a nearly identical price! 100 more for her but she had her gas fire in the front room removed.... they know she recommended me as she dropped in when they were here totally by coincidence!) My friend raves about them but after they put her system in they had to come back three times to fix it - which puts me off a bit but she said they came straight out no probs.
I have tried loads of places - not BG as I hate them! but many wont come out as it is a domestic job. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHh
