No sound through earphones??

Hi all,
I rarely use the sound on my pc but today i needed it. I plugged the earphones in as i usually do and could hear the buzzing sound showing they were connected, but for some reason i can't get anything else??
Have gone into control panel and sound, devices etc but all the volume settings are up with no mute boxes checked??
There is deffo a connection like i said i can hear the buzzing but i'm not even getting the clicking noise u get when u click on a link?
Any ideas anyone??
