Essential Travel Club - Scam ???!!

  • It's not a scam in many cases, sure if people cough up a fee and then hear no more from the company then its a swizz but a lot of these companies will give you what they offer in return for a heavy sales pitch meeting. I know people who in the past went to these kind of meetings, but the ones where they offer a free week somewhere abroad for just attending a half day sales meeting. It is high pressure but as they were headstrong and not easily persuaded then they left the meeting having signed up to nothing but getting a free week away. Might be hard to believe but not all of these companies are fraudsters.

if people follow the common sense rules of not paying for 'free' prizes, not giving their card details out over the phone and not signing contracts abroad, they won't have to rely on consumer law to protect them. It'll also avoid a lot of hassle.

You may aswell talk to a brick wall as there will always be numpties who will do these very things. People will never learn. I think they stopped giving out common sense in the 60's.

I also know some people who have gone through all of the sales pitch and ended up having a week's holiday out of them. Yes - they have been head strong and not committed themselves to anything.

We are certainly not 'numpties'. Yes, we have agreed to join a membership which will hopefully benefit us and our family and friends but have not paid all of the money until we have done our checks. I would certainly not give my card details out to anyone over the telephone.

There must be a problem otherwise the EU wouldn't feel the need to legislate and from their consumer rights website I mentioned earlier they say.
Timeshares and holiday clubs are often sold using aggressive techniques (many of which are illegal in the EU).

There are other issues with holiday clubs, such as losing your money if they should be dissolved before you take your holiday, and which won't be covered by an ATOL licence. I know it's good business for a Travel Club but if it has to be marketed on the back of a cheesy scratchcard ploy (also specifically mentioned on that official EU consumer website), their poor reputation will never improve.
Never ever give your card details to anyone over the phone, and check the reputation of any company you do intend to give them to.

    Please re-read, I wasn't referring to you
  • Could I ask back on this, if any of you still have your same thoughts on this company? Donna did you go ahead and sign up with them? If so How did you get on? How's it going with your time share?

    Thank you
