Refreshing screen goes back to top of page

Sometimes if a thread has a lot of long posts it takes me a while to read the page, so before I post myself I refresh the page to see if there are any new posts. However this takes me back to the top of the page, rather than to the point where I was, i.e. the last post on that page.
Other sites I visit (on same software) are set up to refresh screen to the point you are viewing, i.e. if nothing has been added you don't see any difference, so would it be possible for MSE to be tweaked to do the same?
