Joint Savings Accounts

Hello, I wonder if anyone can advise.
Is it possible to open up a joint account in the names of my father, brother and myself? Is this legal etc??
My father was involved in a car accident some time ago and received compensation which currently sits in a bank account. With the current banking problems, at the very least I want to split the money up just in case a bank goes pop.
At the same time, ideally I want my brother and I to be able to access (at least part) of the funds, as my father could require specialist care quite suddenly and without any warning. As things stand at the moment it is not necessary to go down the power of attorney route as he is capable of looking after his own affairs, but I want to be able to provide the best and most appropriate care for him as and when the time arrives without having to worry about paying for it.
Sorry this is so long. Hope someone can help.
Thanks in advance.

Does your father want this? It is legal as long as all agree. The money in the account would be regarded as split equally between all the account holders (for tax, benefits etc)This is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !0
