Dishwasher and salt

This may well be in the wrong place, so my apologies if it is.
I filled my dishwasher with salt the other day, and it was soooooooo long since I'd put any in, it took the whole hige bag. I've since used it, and the dishes are all foggy on the top rack, and taste (yes, I licked!) salty. I've put the same dishes through twice, and they're still salty. Have I done permanent damage, or will it wear off if I keep putting it through a cycle? I'm so mad, it's costing a bomb in leccy!
Thanks for reading.

I don't think you are meant to fill it with salt. You are supposed to add a specific amount as specified in the instruction book. I doubt you have done any lasting harm and I expect the saltiness will go with time.0

if you are not in a hard water area you do not really need to put salt in dishwashers as it really only applies to hard water areas to soften the water. we do not put salt in ours and it has lasted for over 10 years so far touch wood.0
