I'm learning how to knit, I have a set of 5mm needles, a couple of balls of wool, and i'm struggling, just learnt the knit stitch and pearl so far, but only in straight lines, and dont know how to 'end' my knitting, will really have to get learning if i'm going to start making things, but finding it quite hard!!

Try this book (ask your local library if they got it to save you money) It got some simple projects to help you getting started and it shows you step-by-step.
How to cast on and off, purl stitch and stocking stitch, rib stitch, moss stitch basketweave stitch... Needle size conversions, explaining abbreviations. I bought it and it has helped me loads.
And you can use the 5mm needles for these projects

I got a mini hot water bottle last year, it had a knitted cable jacket on! I love it :D

Little Otter, Utube has lots of videos that should show you everything you want to know. Good luck.

  • I would love to be able to knit these up but my knitting comes out very wobbly and I knit backwards (left-handed) and it drives my mum nuts having to fix my mistakes! My daughters scarf is so uneven that you would think it has scalloped edges.

Both myself and DD are left handed but we knit right-handed - my right handed aunt taught me and I taught DD - can you someone right handed to teach you again - not sure if there are any books with lefthanded instructions in.

just found this http://learn-to-knit.com/left1.htm they have a right handed section as well for all you cack handed people :p;)
Officially a non-smoker but still rounder than recommended :p
