Parking fine- any advice?

Hello there, This is my first post, but i've been looking on this website for a while.

My OH, today parked his car and put the ticket on on the windscreen inside... but while he was closing the door, it must have blown off the dashboard and onto the floor... when he got back he saw he'd gotten a ticket for £25...

Is there any way that he can contest? Or should he just admit defeat and pay the ticket?

Thanks a lot for your help!

It depends whether it was a Council, or a Private car park.

If the ticket is from the Council, there is an appeals procedure, you can get expert advice from the forum at www.pepipoo.com

If it's a private parking company, the "ticket" is worthless and unenforceable, just ignore any correspondence they send until they realise you're not a mug who's going to play their silly game.

I have been providing assistance, including Lay Representation at Court hearings (current score: won 57, lost 14), to defendants in parking cases for over 5 years. I have an LLB (Hons) degree, and have a Graduate Diploma in Civil Litigation from CILEx. However, any advice given on these forums by me is NOT formal legal advice, and I accept no liability for its accuracy.

If he still has the ticket he bought i'm sure he would be able to send it to the council (if its a council car park) to prove he'd bought a ticket, there must be a number on one of the tickets you can ring to enquire about it.

I know i once got a ticket and when i phoned the council and explained i'd only parked up to use the baby changing at a public toilet they over turned it. (especially when i caused a fuss saying once i'd got in the toilets there were no baby changing facilities available lol)

Thanks for the advice... I will ask him to call up the council (he's still at work lol) but hopefully they will understand
  • something similar happened to my father when he parked on a sea front, the ticket was in place but the wind blew through the vents onto the floor

he appealed and it was overturned
