Daughter is now well (although still off school).

The original agreement expired a few months ago but we agreed to keep them on a rolling monthly basis for a couple of months. I should perhaps have sorted it earlier in the month, I agree. However I never do anything about a deposit until the day of moving out when I inspect the property.

Anyway, I managed to get hold of him via his hotmail account so all is well!

    Hi guys,

I'm trying to give back a (full) deposit to a tenant who has just moved out. This was the first tenant we've had where we had to use DPS.

The problem is it requires his RepaymentID. I didn't even know he had one (or even that one was needed to give him back his money)... the problem is he has left the country for a few months and I can't get hold of him, so he can't apply to them for it.

Will DPS allow me to repay it even without this, or will they give it to me? He was a great tenant and I feel very bad that he hasn't got his money back yet!

I haven't contacted DPS yet - thought I'd see if anyone else had a similar problem before I did.

Can everyone please ignore this person, obvious troll, Landlord wanting to pay BACK deposit?

    :p:p:p:p:p

If all my landlords were like you I'd have another £20k in my bank account right now :)

I don't think he was suggesting you return the deposit before he moved out, just to write to him (or indeed any future tenant) with a list of what needs doing before he moves, & how the deposit is returned.

For example, I have a standard move out email, which is sent when I've received written notice, which lists what I expect to be cleaned, in addition to normal domestic cleaning, ...the bits you don't normally see or do incl. tops of cupboards, behind furniture etc. That I'd like all items ideally moved back to their position as listed on the inventory, & that they should update their details with the DPS, & make sure that the DPS has their current mobile, email & forwarding address, to facilitate the return of the deposit.

I also offer to come & do a quick pre-outgoing inventory check, & offer to write a reference.

Yup - definately going to have to add the DPS to my list of things to tell tenants to do from now on!
