Build own web site

I would appreciate any help with this: i am going to help someone build their own website but it is years since I did my HTML course so am a bit rusty. Is there something within Windows you can use for this or will my neighbour need to buy some appropriate software and if so which do you guys think is most idiot proof?
Any other input most gratefully received.:happyhear

If you've done a HTML class in the past then it'll probably not take you long to pick it up again. I'd recommend the site http://www.w3schools.com/ to give yourself a refresher. Look at HTML and CSS primarily.

If you're looking at buying any books then I'd highly recommend "CSS: The Missing Manual". I don't have a recommendation for a HTML book mainly because I don't have any. The nearest being "PHP and MySQL Web Development" from O'Reilly which is quite hard going but is very useful.

There's quite a few WYSIWYG programs out there too. The most mainstream being Dreamweaver. Look out for free ones too such as NVU.

You can either use the built-in Windows text editor, Notepad (or a more sophisticated variant such as Metapad LE or PSPad, both of which are excellent) or some kind of WYSIWYG design suite.

It depends whether it's a fun site for friends and family (in which case sticking to basic HTML/CSS might be the quick & easy solution) or for a business (in which case you might need more complex scripting and a more professional-looking design and might find a specialist web design package better).

I don't know much about web design suites, but for help writing HTML, CSS and other web-related stuff, have a look at https://www.w3schools.com - it's got great tutorials explaining the basics and has a really good reference section too. It's not so great at teaching W3C "best practice", but it's a good place to start...

There's a site https://www.bluehost.com - they do a drag and drop web page designer to build a site you host thrught them - it's unbelievably easy!
If my typing is pants or I seem partcuarly blunt, please excuse me, it physically hurts to type. :wall: If I seem a bit random and don't make a lot of sense, it may have something to do with the voice recognition software that I'm using!
