I've got a Stye coming up.. Any words of wisdom?

Hey...

I do apologise if this is the wrong type of post on here... so feel free to delete it...

Slight problem.. I've got a stye (sp?) coming up on my lower eyelid... now my mother swears by rubbing a gold ring on it to make it go away... and this usually does the trick.... EXCEPT........ I don't wear gold, I'm at Uni, none of my flatmates wear gold...and I have a very busy week ahead of me.....

So I need to get this little terror shifted!! :o

Does anyone have any ideas? I've given myself a weekend off from eye make up... hoping that that would help...

I *really* would appreciate any help.. thank you thank you thank you in advance

The only thing you're likely to do by rubbing it with a ring is to spread the infection - !!

Keep off the make-up, bathe it gently with some warm water - boil the kettle adn then add some salt to it - let it cool enough and then uses some cottn wool to just clean the area regularly - always works for me. The heat seems to draw it a bit faster.

Always wash your hands first and don't touch your other eye!!

Yes the warm salted water bathe is the best treatment for styes. It always works for me too.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

I got a few styes about a year ago, and I can say from experience - go to a doctor. I didn't with the first couple and relied on non-prescription treatments - I will never make that mistake again. The first doctor gave me some excellent antibiotic eyedrops which cleared it right up. The next time I went I got the same stuff as a gel instead which wasn't as easy or comfortable to apply, but still worked well. It was well worth the journey and the £6 prescription charge :).
  • Thanks for your help..I'm going to boil the kettle now!!

Rubbing your eyes - germs get inside and cause infection. I was warned paticularly against rubbing my nost then my eyes - but to be honest I don't really realise what I'm doing so can't really stop myself :o  .

I mean who doesn't rub their eyes/nose every now and again?
  • no, no, no, you don't rub it with a gold ring...

The "old wives tale" as told to me by my father years ago is you take your's Mother's gold wedding ring and rub it on a leather belt until it is warm then hold the ring on the stye.

The initial treatment for styes is usually warm compresses to the eyelid at least three or four times a day. These compresses increase the blood supply to the area, aiding the body’s attack against the bacteria.

Sometimes antibiotic ointment or drops are prescribed.

If untreated, the infection occasionally spreads and requires systemic antibiotics, or even surgical drainage, to treat.
If you think nobody cares about you, try missing a couple of payments.

You can get them if you are run down, which is what usually happens to me.
