Claiming Jobseekers after travelling

Hi,

I've just gotten back from travelling for 4 months (which I funded myself by working full-time) and have now been looking for a career job for the past 6 weeks.

I am about to sign on to job seekers allowance, but I'm not sure if I will be entitled as I left my job voluntarily to go travelling. Does anybody know where I stand?? do I need to say I went travelling??

Any advice would be great!

Why do you need to wait 26 weeks?

I wish people would stop saying this. It's just plainly and simply incorrect.


You should claim straight away.

Only when a decision maker has considered the reasons for you leaving your job (both the Jobseeker and last employers are contacted) can a decision be made.

This decision can be a sanction for up to 26 weeks. On the other hand, it may not be.

The claim for JSA is paid until this decision is made if everything else is OK and by not claiming, you simply lose any benefit that you could have received.
