Time-after-time Damart have been in trouble with the Advertising Standards Authority for misleading mail-shots. The most notorious example was one that looked like a final demand and had "Attention concerning your customer file:
SETTLEMENT OF OUTSTANDING ITEMS " in large red letters on the outside of the envelope.

On opening the letter it was headed "Damart Finance Director" and with the words " FINAL REMINDER" in red again.

It turned out that it was a reminder that you hadn't taken up all their wonderful offers (sic)

This caused such a storm that the chief executive of the company had to go onto TV to apologise.
What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?

I have thanked all posters on this thread using the thanks buttons but I just wanted to add that I am grateful for all of the information that you have shared with me on this thread.

Damart have not replied to my email of complaint (and I was very polite but firm) and it looks like they will not bother if the experiences of others on this thread is anything to go by.

TS have not got back to me yet either. Maybe the Damart complaints file at Yorkshire TS is so thick that it has its own room at the Council Offices! Maybe they are having to wade through a LOT of information.

    Anyway thanks guys and girls.

My freebie Black Cardigan has arrived :-)
Its nothing to shout about, and it looks cheap.
But I had to stand my ground on the issue.

Glad you got it at last Aries :)
  • I used to work for Damart in one of their shops and it was awful, you were supposed to get lots of details which you then had to write down on a slip which was sent to head office weekly. You would get wrong if you did'nt push people for these and since a lot were elderly they would give the information.
I hated it.My own experiences since with the mail order side has been awful and like the ones already mentioned.
There's no way I'd ever use them again. They realy are an awful company and in my opinion very expensive.

My elderly mum has had a few things from them, and recently had a random letter just asking for all these details. Thankfully she told them where to get off.

Btw, to all those who didn't get their gift, you haven't missed much! Mum got one last year as she spent a qualifying amount - it was a pink fleecy dressing gown in a size 10 (she is an 18:confused:), which she gave to me. It was the nastiest item ever - lurid pink brushed nylon stuff (the sort that catches your rough skin) - went straight in the charity bag.

Thanks for that MrsTitlemouse and Andyrules.

We had another catalogue today - they are getting it back tomorrow without a stamp! Revenge is sweet!
