I get that from a business and accounting perspective but the ordinary consumer in the street sees it all as the same company (which it effectively is).
to be honest i see what you mean but if i had a smiths voucher i would know i wouldnt be able to use it on the website, the same with the hmv gift vouchers0 -

Not being one who usually deals in vouchers I didn’t, and neither did my friends or family which would lead me to believe that most consumers don’t realise that either. Which is why I thought I would highlight it.0 -

But with a much broader sample of the population on here it now looks as if it's the other way around, most people do know!0 -
Well perhaps you shouldn't write such damming statements towards other companies when infact it's just you who doesn't seem to know things?
Who rattled your cage? Irregardless of whether many people knew about this or not the fact remains Smiths (and it seems others) take money from consumers and then restrict its spending power to higher priced products that they sell cheaper to other customers. I.e. rip off.
Now if you think that when a rip off is spotted we should not let others know, on the off chance that 100% of the country as already clued in, then fair enough. I hold up my hands and apologise. Personally, I would risk repeating an issue because even if the majority know about it, it could still prove useful for the minority form whom such knowledge is kept.0 -
So if you could have used the vouchers online, but the books you wanted were cheaper in store would you have carried on clicking or toddled off down the Arndale? It's taken me years of experience to get this cynical0

Given an actual choice I would go with the cheaper option and go down the Arndale. But I would feel equally peeved if they were selling cheaper down the Arndale and I was limited to spending on the net.0 -
My dd got Punky Fish vouchers last Xmas as a gift, when she tried to spend them in store in January she was told she couldn't use them on any sale items. Now that is a rip off!0
